The Case Against Christian Nationalism Paperback Released
I’m pleased to announce that the paperback release of my book, The Case Against Christian Nationalism, is now available across all Amazon markets worldwide.
What would life be like under theocratic Caesarism?
Self-described Reformed Christian Nationalists claim that their goal is to regain classical Protestantism and return the West to the theocracies of Reformation Europe and colonial America. Utilizing social media to spread their message, they regularly rely on bombastic statements on the unmanliness of “pietism,” the inferiority of “secular liberal democracy” and the perniciousness of “the postwar consensus.” Often these declarations are flavored with sentiments that their opponents claim betray an ethnic and religious animosity.
In The Case Against Christian Nationalism, author Blake Callens demonstrates that the most popular and lengthy treatise on Christian Nationalism to date, Stephen Wolfe’s The Case for Christian Nationalism, is in fact a book of secular-styled authoritarian- and ethno-nationalist political theory, laundered through Calvinist political theology. Drawing upon the philosophy and methodologies of 20th-century European rightist totalitarianism and the history of religious and ethnic conflict in the United States, Callens shows the direct parallels between Wolfe’s theory, the beliefs of Italian and Spanish fascists, and those of 19th and 20th-century American Nativists.
Through his section-by-section “companion of deliberate contradiction” to Wolfe’s book, using both historical analysis and exegesis of Scripture, he presents a conservative Christian counter to the Christian Nationalist worldview.
What others are saying:
“We find ourselves in strange days. Just as we fight off forces in front of us, principalities and powers incite conflict behind us. Dazed and battered, the church struggles to make sense of these conditions. Thankfully, God in his grace raises up men of sound mind and deep conviction to help his people. In this book, Blake Callens acts like a master-tracker in the wild. He sees clearly what very few have pieced together: that there are real and dangerous ideas of an ethno-nationalist kind in our midst. As a reaction to the evil of wokeness, Christians are being drawn toward a ditch on the opposite side, thinking they should embrace ethno-centrist thinking in some form. This is a solution that is no solution at all. Read Callens's incisive work, grasp the bigger problem at hand, and equip yourself to stand against unsound ideology. God's people may be struggling today, but we are not abandoned. Our God will see us through this mist and this fog.”
—Dr. Owen Strachan, author, The War on Men and Christianity and Wokeness
“Is Stephen Wolfe’s burgeoning vision of Christian Nationalism really the blueprint for restoring our nation under God? With keen understanding of biblical truth and authoritarian political history in the 20th century, Blake Callens does the deep digging required to unveil the startling realities about Wolfe’s reimagined America – and explains why God’s people must never embrace it. This is an excellent, timely and critical analysis that every Christian must read!”
